doc ç No Future in It Mass Market Paperback ó citybells No Future in Itreview of John Brunner's No Future In It by tENTATIVELY a cONVENIENCE October 17 2014 This is the last of the 4 Brunner short story compilations I had lying around to be read It has work from 1955 to 1962 written roughly when Brunner was ages 20 to 27 It's precocious imaginative varied solidly written but still for Brunner a tad underdeveloped The 'worst' Space Opera SF writer 'type'

doc ç No Future in It Mass Market Paperback ó citybells No Future in ItA yellowing paperback I picked at random from my dad's old collection of new wave sci fi this is a mixed bag of stories all based on what we might now call speculative fiction It's nothing special The ideas themselves are interesting enough but Brunner's style is heavy with senseless exposition and meandering dialogue He just can't seem to find a way through to an idea without bludgeoning it to death with the necessity of plot and character; in that sense the book reminded me of Nevil Shute and not in a good wayThe only exceptions to the above are the two stories in which Brunner dispenses with his storytelling

doc ç No Future in It Mass Market Paperback ó citybells No Future in ItStarting a new Brunner collection is always a risk Will it be brilliant or terrible? Will it be so grim it will make me depressed This one really surprised me Brunner kept throwing up these dark timelines and then played the bait and switch with a positive ending which was decidedly unexpected There are also some really funny stories in there What ultimately got this a 5 star rating from me is the purity of the science fiction All of the s
